Governor Orengo Alleges Where Suspects who Attacked Senator Osotsi are Hiding, Says Murkomen is Lying

Siaya County Governor James Orengo has accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen of lying to the public about the whereabouts of suspects who allegedly attacked Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.

CS Murkomen had earlier stated that 14 out of the 17 suspects involved in the assault fled the country.

He noted that the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, together with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, is working with authorities in neighboring countries to track down and arrest them. 

"14 out of 17 suspects who attacked Vihiga Senator Osotsi fled the country. The Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, along with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, is actively searching for them," the CS said.

Murkomen added that the government would crack down on goons and their financiers, revealing that there are over 100 gangs operating in the country, some allegedly bankrolled by politicians who have been criticizing the government over rising insecurity.

"There are over 100 gangs. We are going to arrest them and their financiers," he added.

However, speaking on April 22, 2026, Governor Orengo dismissed the CS’s claims, insisting the suspects are hiding in Kisumu, not abroad, and challenged the government to arrest them.
