When my uncle passed away, the family gathered to divide his property. Most people argued over money and livestock, but when the land was mentioned, the room went quiet. It was a small parcel on the outskirts of town, undeveloped and overgrown. No one wanted it.

Some even laughed nervously and said, “Let whoever is brave enough take it.” I saw opportunity where others saw superstition, so I accepted it without hesitation. 

At first, everything moved fast. The title transferred smoothly. My savings were enough to start construction, and approvals came easily.

Within months, a modest house stood on the land. I remember feeling proud, almost defiant, that I had turned an ignored inheritance into something tangible. 

That pride did not last long.
The night I moved in, I barely slept. Not because of noise, but because of an overwhelming heaviness.

Days later, my health declined suddenly. I lost appetite, suffered constant headaches, and felt watched even when alone. Then my finances began to crumble. 

Payments I was sure I had made were suddenly “missing.” Business deals failed without reason. Clients I had worked with for years stopped calling.

The collapse was fast and total. Within three months, my relationship ended, my savings were gone, and I was forced to stop staying in the house I had worked so hard to build. 

Friends began avoiding me the same way they had avoided the land. One elder finally spoke the truth everyone else had danced around.

The land had a history. Long-standing family disputes, unresolved burials, and secrets deliberately buried to trap whoever settled there.
