The endorsement took place during a delegates’ meeting held in Nairobi on Tuesday. The gathering brought together party officials from across the city at a time when ODM is facing internal disagreements over its future direction.
Winnie, who currently serves as a member of the East African Legislative Assembly, was endorsed for the position of Deputy Party Leader. The move places her among the top decision-makers in the party and signals a shift toward younger leadership within ODM.
The meeting was led by Makadara MP George Aladwa, who also chairs the party in Nairobi. Delegates used the forum to show unity and agree on leaders they believe can guide the party through its current challenges.
In addition to the national role, Winnie was also endorsed as Nairobi’s top party delegate. This position has strong influence within ODM structures and plays a role in shaping decisions at the national level.
The seat she now takes up was previously held by her father, Raila Odinga, one of the most influential figures in the party’s history. Taking over this role adds symbolic weight to her new position and strengthens her standing among party members.
Across Nairobi’s 17 constituencies, ODM chairpersons supported her nomination. Their backing shows a coordinated effort to present a united front ahead of the party’s upcoming National Delegates Convention.
