Kakamega Senator Boniface Khalwale caused excitement in the Senate on Wednesday after making a surprising statement about the 2027 General Election.
While speaking in the Senate, Khalwale said that the opposition will win the election and form the next government.
He confidently told those present that they would defeat President William Ruto. His remarks made many senators cheer and laugh.
What surprised many people is that Khalwale is currently a member of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the same party led by President Ruto. Because of this, his statement seemed to go against his own party.
Despite this, Khalwale spoke with confidence and did not show any doubt. He even added that he will be part of the new government that will be formed by the opposition in 2027.
The senator is known for speaking boldly and sometimes making statements that attract attention.
His latest remarks have already started discussions among Kenyans, with many wondering whether he is planning to change his political side in the future.
It is still not clear if Khalwale was joking or if he was serious about joining the opposition. However, his words show that political competition ahead of the 2027 elections is already taking shape.
As the country moves closer to the next election, leaders are expected to make more strong statements like this.
For now, Khalwale’s comments have added excitement and raised questions about what could happen in Kenya’s political scene in the coming years.

The statement by Khalwale is not a surprise. Khalwale has no strong affiliation to any side of the divide. He normally sits on the fence to decide on the side that is favourable to him.
